Sometimes going to a new place or trying something different can bring on a little anxiety. We understand! You may have a lot of questions or just feel uncertainty about coming to a new place or trying yoga for the first time. If you’re new to yoga or you have never been to the studio before, maybe you’re unsure of what to expect or what the process is when arriving. Here are some common questions we get asked and tips to help you feel right at home.
Respect the time. Infinite Love is located in a secure building and we will always greet you at the door prior to your class or event. You can park in our parking lot behind the building, located at East 9th and German St. Be prepared to check in at the door when you arrive and pay for your class or workshop if you haven’t already. Once the class has started the doors are closed and locked for everyone’s safety.
How and when do I pay for my class? Please prepay online when you register or pay your instructor when you arrive and check in. If you are paying your instructor directly, you can refer to them for which methods of payment they will accept. You can also pay for your class at check in using a card. Most instructors accept cash, Venmo, etc.
What do I wear? Despite what you often see on social media, you don’t need expensive leggings or matching sets for a great yoga practice. In fact, you may find that the more comfortable you are, the more relaxed you feel in your practice. Wear something that you can freely move around in. Sweatpants and t-shirts are just fine. We promise it doesn’t matter if you haven’t had a pedicure. Feel free to take your socks off so that you can properly grip your yoga mat. Remember, yoga doesn’t care how you show up as long as you are present. That goes for how you feel that day too. It’s okay to not always have it all together.
What if I have a concern or injury? It’s a good practice to mention to your instructor at check in if you have any injuries, recent surgeries or relevant health issues. They may avoid certain postures during the class or offer you specific modifications. You are always the expert of your body so, please trust it and move gently.
Before you enter the studio, remove your shoes. Shoes are not permitted inside the studio. Please respect this by placing them neatly on the shoe rack outside the door before you enter or on the boot tray in the winter. You can bring your coat and other belongings into the coat room to hang up. Please do not leave coats or personal items in the hallway or bring them onto the studio floor. We want to keep the studio clean, safe, and free of distractions. We also want to be good neighbors to others in the building by keeping the hallway clean.
Please silence your cell phone. Imagine being in the most relaxing savasana and then suddenly you hear it, bzzz. bzzzz. bzzzz. It’s important to not disturb the class with buzzing, vibrating, dinging, or ringing phones. Please turn your phone off, silence it, or put it in airplane mode during class. Allow yourself and your fellow students this time to be fully present.
Embrace the sacred. Infinite Love Yoga is a sacred, peaceful space. Please keep voices down and respect the need for peace and quiet inside the studio. The lounge in the hallway is a great place for catching up with friends before or after class without disturbing those who may need to sit in quiet reflection before or after class.
Be in the present. Allow yourself to experience the present moment and bring your awareness inward. Avoid comparisons or looking at others during your practice. Focus on yourself. Yoga is a very personal practice and no one will do things exactly the same. Don’t be afraid to ask your instructor for clarification or modifications.
Use our props. We have mats and props available for you to borrow. Please experiment with using props in your practice or asking for a modification to a posture. Your teacher is here to guide your practice and help make the asanas accessible and comfortable for your body.
Don’t forget to clean up. If you borrow a mat please spray it with mat cleaner and let dry for a couple of minutes before rolling it up and putting it away. The mat cleaner is made of minimal non toxic, anti bacterial ingredients and essential oils. Please return all props neatly for the next class.
